First Time

After I meditate 

when I open my eyes 

it seems as though I am seeing everything for the 

first time

Breathing the air for the 

first time

Hearing the bird’s song for the 

first time

Falling in love for the 

first time

Feeling peace, gentle peace for the 

first time

Beautiful Center

There is something about the barren trees of winter 

devoid of summer’s green leaves, spring’s budding flowers, 

and autumn’s crimson and golden foliage

Today the barren treen trunks stand beside me 

as I gaze upon you 

not looking toward the treetops or the snow on the ground 

but the center of the forest

They stand beside me 

like totem poles sharing 

their ancient stories 

of the adventures 

in between 

Tell me your secrets so I may carry on 

not gazing high for inspiration, 

not questing the support of the ground 

but 

just seeing the middle 

and for the first time in my sixty years 

I can see the beautiful center

I am writing 

from 

the beautiful 

lotus 

within me 

While 

at this very moment 

I am being 

watered 

by sun showers 

from above

I am so glad that I have come to you today 

you are my love 

my salvation

My journey has not gone far

Each circle I make is back to you 

in your warm loving arms

I sing praises to you my love 

Oh, take my hand so I may feel again

Take my head and cradle it in you bosom so I may think clearly again 

Wrap your arms around me so I may breathe again 

Your touch rekindles my very soul as we meld

together

For wherever in the world

near or afar

the earth is my constant  

under my feet 

and whenever I gaze up
