Jasmine

I stand within breezes of jasmine and ginger
My petals dance with heavenly peace

Joined by wisdom, serenity and love
Consumed by joy
We sing in perfect harmony

Humming orange and golden glories
Dressed in soft, tender pinks
Finely stitched in woven burgundy

The echoing forest greens
And soil brown
Linking all to
One above

In the nurturing arms of the sun
The mandolin enlightens the air

Capturing our hearts rich melodies
Hymns echo everywhere

Welcoming the sunrise
Sweeping deep
Majestic indigoes
Streak across our early morning fair

Nothing

When there is
nothing
that"I have to do”
then
it boils down to
what “I choose to do.”

Winter Has Returned

And the wind she blows upon the waters
Winter has returned

What was once ice will return
I know the ice will return

Oh what was once grand now lies in the mud
Oh what was once grand now I sit here with eyes shut

What season is it
What will become of these rapidly changing moments

Have I closed my eyes to the world
while the world tries to open them

The Story of the Akita II

This week I am reposting "The Story of the Akita"
as I promised my friend, Pina.

On my daily walks back in 1999 I’d often pass this large, powerful dog on the way to my meditation stream in Brunswick Acres, NJ. I often thought of how he tugs and tugs while barking excessively.

The rope wrapped around the willow tree would not give and I could see it was securely tied to his collar, home of his gasping breath. He would tug at the rope so tightly that he could barely breathe or act sane. If only he could take two steps back, he’d breathe freely, lay comfortably, peaceful and happy.

The story of the Akita echoes through my head often, even though it is 2014. If only we were to take two steps back and let ourselves live with freedom and contentment. Our supersonic lifestyle tugs at our neck. The rope of technology rules us. We can only think of our next step as we gasp. Just take two steps back. Peace is here. Listen…the barking has stopped.
